The owners wanted their collection on show in the room where they watch the boats come through the inlet each evening. They also wanted the cooling to stay quiet. We framed and insulated a corner of the upstairs lounge, then added a frameless glass wall, oak racks and a ducted cooling system routed through the attic. The wife told us sunset now means picking a bottle and watching the lighthouse come on across the water.

Wide hallway alcove turned into a cooled, glass-fronted cellar holding about 240 bottles.
This home had a deep alcove that only held a side table, and the owner wanted to put that space to work for his Spanish and Portuguese reds. We sealed the alcove, put in a vapor barrier and a through-wall cooling unit, then closed it in with a glass door and label-forward metal racks. He said it is the first thing guests notice when they walk in from the beach path.
